Marco Sollazzo's musical journey began with a simple yet profound lesson - the traditional Neapolitan songs sung by his mother. These early melodies left an indelible mark on his heart, setting the stage for his enduring path in music.

At just 13 years old, Marco stumbled upon the electric bass, sparking a passion that led him to tour Europe with rock, funk, and prog bands. His dedication to his craft eventually took him to the Parma Conservatory, where he refined his skills in both Jazz and Classical Double Bass, along with composition. 

​

During a significant period as a music therapist with the Italian NHS, Marco witnessed firsthand the therapeutic power of music. This experience deepened his appreciation for the art form's ability to heal and soothe. 

​

Yet, Marco's roots called him in a different direction. While living in Izmir, Turkey, for many transformative years, he immersed himself fully in modal music and studied the Oud under the guidance of renowned masters.

Simultaneously, he dedicated himself to the Double Bass in Turkish music, dividing his passion and dedication between the two instruments.

This unique approach allowed him to infuse enchanting Turkish music with his perspective.

In addition to his expertise with the Double Bass and Oud, Marco recently earned a Master of Music degree from Edinburgh Napier University. His research, titled "Jazz and Makam through the Lens of Microtonality: A Syncretic Experience," delves into the intricate fusion of jazz and makam, exploring the world of microtonality as a means of musical syncretism.

As a dedicated music educator, Marco believes that music offers an opportunity for social justice, bringing people together regardless of their backgrounds.
